ICT 2013

November 21st, 2013 No comments

The ICT 2013 event was held at the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre LITEXPO in Vilnius from the 6-8 November 2013 and represented a unique opportunity for projects and companies to showcase their research, ICT products and innovative creations. The VENTURI stand was one of the 200+ exhibits which covered a diverse set of research results and products, ranging from cars and advanced robots to very small components, software, new business or new services.
The exhibition is grouped according to 5 themes
* digitally empowered citizens; – Putting the individual in the centre.
* smart and sustainable cities for 2020+; – Putting the city in the centre.
* industry and business for tomorrow; – Putting the competitiveness of European industry in the centre.
* intelligent connecting intelligence; – Putting networking, interfacing, integration in the centre.
* culture, science and creativity. – Putting content in the centre.

The VENTURI demo, in the “culture, science and creativity” theme, consisted of a software and hardware technology showcase woven into the form of an AR game experience on a table-top miniature city. The player accomplishes a set of missions (i.e. burger deliveries in a limited time), by steering a virtual car with a mobile AR device through the real city. Spatial 3D audio effects add to the immersive experience of the game. The demonstration showed state-of-the-art real-time markerless 3D tracking on a mobile device. Visual feature extraction/tracking and advanced hardware sensor data fusion algorithms are exploited to provide a high level of robustness and performance. The city model was geometrically reconstructed in a prior offline stage: a 3D map of sparse feature points is used for efficient tracking, whilst a watertight 3D model of the city facilitates precise occlusion handling and collision detection.

Between the 10th and 12th October, Jacques Lemordant, Thibaud Michel and Mathieu Razafimahazo introduced the VENTURI Y1 game to visitors. Markerless tracking, occlusion model and 3D audio concepts have been the 3 elements mainly explained at EXPERIMENTA.
For its third edition, over 1,500 visitors attended the EXPERIMENTA at MINATEC in Grenoble, within the framework of the Isère Science Festival. The three-day Arts, Science and Design Exhibition was attended by professionals and the public with productions interfacing new technologies and artistic creativity. Scientists from CEA Grenoble, research institute (INRIA), students from Polytechnic of Grenoble and entrepreneurs displayed their works of unique and interactive models.
